In order to emphasize the growth of the next generation of Canadian athletes, the Regional Development Centres are a crucial pillar of the Water Polo Canada High Performance development strategy.
In 2017, Water Polo Canada embarked on a new strategy. Regional Development Centres (RDCs) were developed to focus on enhancing training environments for future high performance athletes. These centres are now crucial pillars of Water Polo Canada’s High Performance pathway.
Harnessing the platform created by the Regional Development Centres, Ontario Water Polo has aligned their programming:
In the fall of 2017, Water Polo Canada and Ontario Water Polo opened the doors to the first ever Canadian Regional Development Centre. The program facilitated system alignment, while supplementing and enhancing the weekly training environment for athletes in the GTA.
The Capital Region followed suite, leveraging the close relationship between Ontario Water Polo and Water Polo Quebec to deliver a combined RDC strategy for athletes in both regions.
