 Golden Horseshoe National Perormance Centre

The Canadian Women’s Water Program is pleased to announce the formation of the Golden Horseshoe of Ontario Performance Center beginning Saturday October 18th 2008.

The objective of the Performance Centers are to introduce and lead the development of High Performance Water Polo players in their respective city and province by providing opportunities for talented regional and provincial level waterpolo players to achieve excellence in high performance sport from within their home environment.

The performance center’s curriculum has been made and will be communicated to the performance center coaches by the Womens Program Leader, Pat Oaten. The content of the performance center will directly relate to what is being taught at the Womens National Training Center in Montreal. The focus will be both offensive and defensive techniques with the eventual implementation of these techniques into tactics and real time play. Although not a focal point, fitness levels will be addressed, but it is expected that the clubs of these selected athletes have addressed this issue.

The co-coaches of the Central Ontario Performance Center will be Ross Macdonald and Jennifer Doto. Both coaches bring immediate credibility and professionalism to the centre.
Ross brings a wealth of national and international experience as he has coached both the men’s and women’s national teams and was a coach for the 2003 Canadian Junior Women World Championship Gold Medal winning team. Jennifer is a long time OUA and OWP all-star. Her expertise in goal and her professional business background will bring leadership and

  • Practices to start up again on Sunday, January 4th, 2009.
  • Performance Center athletes will also participate in the Performance Center League that involves Performance Centers in Ottawa and Montreal.

Expectations of athletes:

The Golden Horseshoe NPC is fully supporting the OWP Club system in recruiting and developing athletes. As such:

  1. Every athlete MUST make 100% of club practices to be able to participate at NPC. It is the responsibility of the athlete and her club coach to ensure all workouts not in conflict with NPC events will not be missed.
  2. However since so many clubs are involved in the Golden Horseshoe NPC the NPC workouts will take priority. If a club or player has a conflict with any individual workout a written request can be made at least two weeks in advance.
  3. The athlete MUST commit to 2 workouts per week with NPC from October 2008 to June 2009.
  4. Every carded athlete (Quest for Gold or Sport Canada) can not miss any workout for work reasons.
Every other athlete can make the case of working and will be considered on individual bases.
  5. Academic Success is very important to us so if athlete is not performing in a school, she will be placed in suspension from the NPC until parents and coaches see the satisfied level of academic improvement.
  6. If athlete will be missing a workout for whatever reason prior notification to the coaches must occur. This is for both the club and NPC workouts!
  7. If the athlete continues to miss workouts (either club or NPC practices) she could be put on probation or removed from the NPC.

Cost:

$350.00 per athlete payable to Water Polo Canada.

*Cheques to be submitted to the performance center manager at the first practice

This cost will cover pool time, coaching salary and national team visits to the centre. Additional travel costs will be announced prior to each trip.

Respectfully,

Pat Oaten
